A proven partnership: "Young Pianists" of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation open the 7th Swiss Alps Classics
This partnership has long since turned into friendship! Since 2018, when Lang Lang performed with four of his "Scholars" at the theater(Uri), there has been a close bond between the Festival Swiss Alps Classics and the Lang Lang International Music Foundation (LLIMF). Also this year we remain faithful to this cherished tradition: We are looking forward to presenting Carey BYRON, 19, and Sebastian PICHT, 18, two highly talented young pianists from the USA. The two young pianists will open the 7th edition of the Swiss Alps Classics on (tomorrow) Friday at 6:30 pm in the new chamber music hall of Kultur Kulinarik Vitznau (KKV). A remaining contingent of tickets for the opening concert, which as in previous years is supported by the POK Pühringer Privatstiftung, is available via the online ticket store on the festival website.
Leszek Lukas BARWINSKI-BROWN, the CEO of LLIMF, says about the collaboration with our festival: "We are very honored to continue our great partnership with our friends from Swiss Alps Classics for the fifth year to celebrate classical music together. It is a wonderful opportunity for our young scholarship recipients to showcase their exceptional talents - while also showcasing our Foundation's mission, programs and achievements. We look forward to many years of music together!"
For Lang Lang "Young Pianists" Carey Byron and Sebastian Picht, the anticipation is great, as they report in a brief interview. In addition, the two, who despite their youth are already winners of renowned international piano competitions, give very personal insights into their planned program.
Ms. Byron, Mr. Picht, what are you most looking forward to in view of your appearance at the Swiss Alps Classics?
Carey Byron: "I am most looking forward to performing classical music in stunning Switzerland. I think classical music harmonizes very well with the beautiful and pristine atmosphere, and I believe that through the music I perform, I can make a real connection with the audience who wake up to this environment every day and appreciate its beauty."
Sebastian Picht: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to perform at such a prestigious festival as Swiss Alps Classics. I am very much looking forward to sharing my music with a very special audience in the beautiful surroundings of Vitznau."
How would you describe your respective programs?
Carey Byron: "My program consists of two Chopin masterpieces that radiate opposing energies and emotions. One is dark, somber and tragic, the other is serene, playful and brilliant. So these two works represent the variety of opposite emotions that I carry inside me, and I'm ready to convey them to the audience."
Sebastian Picht: "I see my program as a combination of a wide range of human emotions and experiences, deep feelings, profound thoughts and uninhibited passion. My program pays tribute to Sergei Rachmaninoff, my favorite composer, who celebrates his 150th birthday in 2023; Johannes Brahms, who was born in Hamburg, where my German roots are; and Sergei Prokofiev, whose music represents the reality of life for all those who lived through wartime in the Soviet Union, like my mother's family."
